Energy Saving Tips:
Reduce Bills and
Make Your Home
More Efficient
Better habits, lower energy, happier planet
Around 20% of UK carbon emissions come from home energy, so we can all make a difference by saving energy. Plus, with cost of living going up, reducing your energy use doesn’t just help the planet – it can also save you money on your energy bills. Before taking any drastic measures, a few small changes could quickly add up. If you stay consistent with these easy-to-do steps, you’ll soon see how much you really could save.
Switch off lights
Leaving the room? Switch that light off.
Turn appliances off standby
Leaving your appliances on standby means it’s still using energy.
Shorter showers
Cold or hot, save energy with four minute showers.
Wash cold, wash less
You could reduce your energy by using colder water and running one less wash a week.
Reduce your dishwasher use
Cut down by just one cycle a week to save on energy.
Air dry your clothes
Not only will this save you energy, but the fabric will last longer and look crisper.
Even better
Put our tips to the test and wanting more? We’ve come up with some extra energy wins that not only reduce your bills, but also help the environment.
Install a smart meter
Remove the unpredictability of estimated billing, ensuring you pay for exactly what you use.
If everyone in Britain changed to a smart meter, £560 million could be saved.
A boiler upgrade
An efficient boiler is the number one priority for improving energy efficiency.
Insulation
Insulating your floors, walls, ceilings and loft can help massively with improving energy efficiency in your home.
Cavity wall insulation could save the average household up to £300* a year.
Double glazed windows
This is one of the most effective ways to improve energy efficiency.
Using efficient appliances
This helps to both improve the energy rating of your home and save you money.
Switch to LEDs
Making the switch to LED light bulbs offers significant energy savings
Need help with funding?
You could be eligible for help from Energy Company Obligation (ECO) which is a government energy efficiency scheme in Great Britain to tackle fuel poverty and help reduce carbon emissions.
We work with installers to introduce certain efficiency measures into your home, such as loft, wall insulation and heating measures.
To find out if you’re eligible, E.ON Energy have set up an information page here.
*Figures correct as of 25/11/2022, with the average energy price at 34p per kWh for electricity in the UK. Based on an average three bedroom semi-detached house. Insulation savings are based on installing cavity wall insulation. Boiler savings are based on upgrading to a new A rated boiler from a G rated boiler. Savings from light bulbs are based on switching from a 100 watt incandescent bulb to an LED bulb.
